Don't miss this opportunity to fish the Lower Sac with Fishmaster Mike Caranci on February 14th. Mike has always done a great job with this Fish Out so get you gear together and join Mike and others and do what our club does best. Catch Fish!! Lower Sacramento River Fishout Date: Friday, February 14, 2020 Time & Place 9:00 am at the Dieselhorst Bridge Access Parking Area (pullout off of Court Street, South of Court Street Bridge on the East side of the St). We’ll have a brief presentation on wade-fishing techniques (and accesses) on the Lower Sac, then spread out and start fishing! Fishmaster: Michael Caranci: 530-604-2160, Michael@mongoliarivers.com Equipment: 6-7 wt. Rods, floating lines. Plan on mostly fishing with nymphs and indicators, though there can be some dry fly fishing in the afternoon. Those who want to swing flies with sink-tips can do that as well, depending on your preferred method. Flies: Please check with The Fly Shop for a current list of what’s working on the river. Typically in mid-February the weather predicates the productive flies: if overcast, rainy, stormy, cold: egg patterns can be productive, as well as Micro Mayflies (olive) #16-18; Hogan’s S&M Nymph (olive) #16-18; Rubberlegs #8 (brown or black); Red Copper Johns #16. If sunny and warm, early caddis hatch may be starting, in which case the brachycentrus (Mother’s Day) Caddis can start hatching, and flies that work for that are #16 Amber-Wing Prince, #16 Silvey’s Beaded Pupa in either Olive or Black; Nitro Caddis #16 in Olive; warm weather can also start the trout and pikeminnow spawn, so Yellow Sucker Spawn eggs can be important to fish. For potential dry fly fishing, if overcast, possible Baetis Hatches, #16 Parachute Adams or #16 Mercer’s Missing Link. If Sunny and Warm, caddis Hatches, #14 or #16 Mercer’s Missing Link. If swinging, small black streamers can be effective. If the caddis are hatching, swinging soft hackles in the riffles can also be effective. Lunch: On Your Own. River access maps will be available at the meeting site for those wishing to fish other areas of the river.
